August workshop: July 30 to August 26, 2018
This is the most exciting class of the summer, an intensive workshop for advanced potters and sculptors in clay as well as beginners. It is especially adapted for artists without previous experience with clay. Novices will learn from each other and from the experienced artists and potters who come each year. There will be daily demonstrations on the potter’s wheel, and frequent consultations. Students will be able to experiment with a salt kiln as well as two reduction kilns and electric kilns.
The workshop is best used to develop one or two ideas, to do a cohesive body of work. There will be opportunity to work from a model for those who wish. It is recommended that participants keep a sketch book of ideas for pieces.
In the first half of the workshop, artists form their pieces. In the second half they glaze, stack and fire kilns and work toward a show of all the work of the summer that takes place August 26.
Cost: $1800 includes lunch on weekdays for the first two weeks and up to two machine loads of clay, about 400 pounds. Participants may make extra clay for a cost of $400 for a moderate machine load.
It is possible to take a half workshop for $950
